Navigating our inner & outer worlds can feel bewildering, confusing and sometimes unbearable. I've emerged from many dark nights of the soul and have gathered valuable tools to encourage thriving while supporting the immense difficulty we can face being alive.
My intention is to embody a compassionate, grounding and restorative space, with occasional humour, that points you in the direction of your body wisdom and other accessible resources.
For as long as I can remember, I've been intuitively dancing and expressing myself creativity as a way to live fully and take the pressure off of being a highly-sensitive person.
My personal journey with trauma, grief and mental health navigation give me lived experience to draw from in this work. I'm a devotee of the creative spark, a Mom, a musician, a DJ, and a multi-passionate artist who creates with heartfelt sound, life-fueling beats, and mixed-media experimentation.
As an Expressive Arts Therapist, Registered Therapeutic Counsellor, and massage practitioner (former Manitoba RMT), I attend to mental health and wellness through body-centred, creative, and nature-based approaches. I've been in therapeutic practice for 25 years. I reside and have a clinic space in the unceded traditional territory of the Kwakwakaʼwakw people on Malcolm Island with my husband.
I've been facilitating movement for 22 years; first as a hatha yoga teacher, then Kundalini Dance Faciliator before creating Rewilding Dance, Plants & Dance Journeys & co-founding Dance Temple Cowichan. Expressive Arts Therapy offered a beautiful evolution into a more trauma-informed approach to guiding somatic movement.
I was born & raised, with my brother, in a musical family in Manitoba on Treaty 1 territory of the Métis Anishinabewaki ᐊᓂᔑᓈᐯᐗᑭ and Očeti Šakówiŋ (Sioux) nations. Music, humour, a strong work ethic and napping were core pieces in my family culture growing up. My parents are Sandra & Garry with an ancestral background of Swedish, Cree, Scottish & English heritage.
I am dedicated to my family, son, friends, clients, plant allies, biodiversity, music, dance, creativity & lots of humour.
I intend to meet you where you are at with embodied presence, gentle curiosity & confidentiality. I gently carry a willingness to be with what is difficult and an inspiration to encourage you to live a nourished and well-resourced life. ☆
